Stop the Bleed is a worldwide program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
According to the ACS:
Why is Stop the Bleed important?
Learning to stop the bleed is a lifesaving skill. The number 1 cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding. With 3 quick actions, you can be trained and empowered to save a life.
Minutes count! Someone who is severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as 5 minutes. That’s why bleeding control—keeping the blood inside the body—is the purpose of STOP THE BLEED® training.
Learn how to save someone’s life by controlling bleeding after an injury. A Stop the Bleed class teaches you how to properly apply pressure with your hands, place dressings, pack a wound and apply a tourniquet to stop bleeding until the injured can be treated at a hospital. Minutes count. Is a trauma first aid kit available? Does it matter where the wound is on the injured’s body?
The course also teaches you how to assess threats in your surroundings. This is key for accidents, major disasters, active shooter or intentional mass casualty events.
