There is an extremely low reporting rate of child abuse by the dental community and this program is designed to promote awareness. 

Course Outline:  

• Overview of what encompasses child abuse
• Physical indicators of child abuse
• Behavioral Indicators of Child Abuse
• Review of New Jersey’s Child Protection Law
• How to Report Suspected Child Abuse
• Review of Immunity from Civil or Criminal Liability

 

Course Description & Learning Objectives:

This program will discuss preventing abuse and neglect through dental awareness. This program is sponsored by Delta Dental Plan of New Jersey through its philanthropic arm, the Delta Dental Endowment Association. Health Care professionals are mandated by state law to report suspected cases of abuse and neglect. Be able to differentiate accidental injuries from abuse. Learn protocol for knowing when to document and report abuse. Physical and Behavioral indicators will be discussed. Clinical cases will be presented.

Instructor: Dr. Lawrence A Dobrin: is a graduate and also a visiting associate professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ. Dr. Dobrin is a  member of the NJ Dental Association, the Union County Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the NJ Pediatric Dental Association, and he is a fellow of the American College of Dentists. Dr. Dobrin also serves as the Chief  Forensic Dentist for the Office of Chief Medical Examiner of NY.City.   He is also a consultant to the Union County Medical Examiner and the Regional Medical Examiner in Newark, NJ. Dr. Dobrin’s involvement in academic dentistry affords him the  opportunities.

This program is for the full dental staff – no prior skills are needed to attend.

The teaching method will be in a lecture format with a Q & A period.
