Course Description
Periodontal therapy extends beyond the treatment of periodontal disease and peri-implantitis and often plays a critical role in addressing patients’ cosmetic and esthetic concerns. This course focuses on the evaluation and management of common esthetic periodontal conditions that impact smile appearance, function, and patient satisfaction.
Participants will review the etiology and clinical presentation of gingival recession, including patient concerns related to root exposure and sensitivity, and explore treatment options aimed at root coverage. The course will also discuss medication-induced gingival overgrowth, with particular emphasis on calcium channel blockers commonly prescribed for hypertension, and the implications for periodontal health and esthetics.
Management of the “gummy smile” will be examined, including diagnostic considerations and treatment planning. Both surgical and non-surgical periodontal techniques will be reviewed, highlighting indications, limitations, and expected outcomes. Additionally, the course will address the recognition of abnormal frenum attachments and tongue ties, emphasizing their potential impact on gingival stability, oral function, and esthetic results.
