Course Description
Explore how functional medicine principles can enhance preventive dental care by addressing digestion, immune resilience, hormonal balance, nutrition, and patient-centered health tracking. This course examines the interconnected relationship between oral and systemic health while providing practical strategies dental professionals can implement to support behavior change, improve patient engagement, and elevate long-term outcomes.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
Explain the relationship between digestion, immune function, and oral health and apply lifestyle-centered approaches to support these interconnected systems.
Recognize how hormonal balance influences oral inflammation and oral-systemic outcomes and identify practical lifestyle modifications that support hormonal health.
Evaluate how nutritional status and antioxidant balance influence healing capacity, inflammatory burden, and preventive dental outcomes.
Assess how at-home health measurement tools can increase patient engagement, accountability, and sustainable behavior change within dental practice.
Instructor: Amanda Hale is a registered dental hygienist with over 18 years of clinical experience and a strong passion for patient-centered care. She is HIAOMT-accredited through the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology and is the host of Functional Roots: The Biological Hygiene Podcast (formerly co-host of Hygiene Elevated). Amanda serves as a professional educator and Key Opinion Leader for oral care brands and has contributed to RDH Magazine and Dentistry IQ with a focus on bridging oral health and whole-body wellness. Most recently, she completed her health coaching program through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy in partnership with the Institute for Functional Medicine and has earned her NBC-HWC credential. Now, she’s stepping into her next chapter—finding creative, real-world ways to bring these tools to life and help patients transform their oral health as part of their overall wellness journey.
Requirements to attend a live webinar:
You will need a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer to view it. If using a smartphone or tablet, it is best to have the app for the program on your device (i.e. Zoom).
To verify your continued attendance during the class, you will need a microphone,or the ability to type into the program’s live chat.
A webcam so the teacher can see you
Instructors or school personnel will take attendance periodically throughout the class.
Instructors may call on participants.
To verify attendance, a code word may be given sometime during the class.
You will be required to complete and return an evaluation after the course has ended. The evaluation may ask what code word was given.
You may not receive your Certificate of Completion if we cannot verify your attendance.
Certificates of Completion are emailed to students approximately 5 business days after the course.
This program is for the full dental staff – no prior skills are needed to attend.
The teaching method will be in a lecture format with a Q & A period.
