Vitamins, Herbs & Periodontal Disease and other Dental Problems
Learning Objectives:

- Provide your patients with up to date information on vitamins and herbal medications.
- Learn when to use prescription drugs and interactions with herbal medications.
- Update on most prescribed drugs.
- Cooperation with chiropractors and acupuncturists.
Course Description:
Many patients are requesting a more “holistic approach” or prefer more “natural” ways to treat their dental problems. Physicians are quick to over prescribe and patients come in with laminated cards of all their prescriptions. A great deal of these medications can affect the periodontium causing gingival overgrowth and dry mouth. Others, such as blood thinners are important in managing dental surgery procedures.
Dentists must be knowledgeable about prescription medications and their side effects.
There are more natural ways that can be used to help our patients prevent and treat periodontal disease and caries. Vitamin supplements are often safe and effective. Many herbal medications are very beneficial but must be recommended with certain precautions. This course will provide the dentist, hygienist and staff will vital information that can be given to our patients to help assist them in which over the counter and “home remedies” are effective.
