- Understand the current state of cannabis access in the United States.
- Discuss the barriers to access, the limitations of research and the potential for future access.
- Understand the NJ Medical Marijuana program, including qualifying medical conditions and the Dept. of Health Regulations.
- Describe and discuss the current role and potential future role of Cannabidiol (CBD) and hemp-based dentistry.
- Describe and list the uses of each major cannabinoid: THC, CBD, CBG, and CBN.
- Analyze the routes and methods of administration for cannabis, including inhalation, topical and ingestion routes.
- Describe the side effects, contraindications and indications for the use of cannabis in dentistry
Course Description:
This is a comprehensive evidenced based course covering both hemp and cannabis. As cannabis and hemp laws expand nationwide, the dental professional must be educated on Cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabis derivatives: THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBG (Cannabigerol), CBN (Cannabinol) and the essential oils of cannabis called Terpenes. Cannabis is currently accessible through the New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program; however legal access does not prohibit use and it is widely used by patients. This course will examine the NJMMP program, including actual patient case presentations from New Jersey Alternative Medicine Cannabis Certification Center. {Teaching method will be lecture format and Q & A period.}
