  • Describe orofacial pain and how to make an assessment
  • Explain the differential diagnosis for the following: Odontogenic, musculoskeletal, neuropathic, neurovascular pain
  • Identify the most common causes of non-Odontogenic pains
  • Compare and contrast the differential diagnosis of myofascial pain, headaches, sinusitis and neuropathic pain.
  • Employ diagnostic tests for each condition and management

Instructor:  Dr. Sowmya Ananthan earned her DMD and MSD degrees at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Now the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine). She teaches there in the Division of Orofacial Pain. Dr. Ananthan is board certified by the American Board of Orofacial Pain. Her research interests include trigeminal neuropathic pain, and the interaction between sleep disorders and pain.
