Course Description:
More than 50,000 cases of oral and Oropharyngeal cancers are diagnosed and about 10,000 die from this disease in US each year. Despite recent advances, this mortality figure has remained unchanged for several decades primarily due to late stage diagnosis. Early detection of oral cancer dramatically improves prognosis allowing dental practitioners a unique and essential opportunity for service to their patient. Course Description:
Although the advent of effective antiretroviral medications has dramatically reduced HIV-related mortality and changed this disease into a chronic condition, HIV infection continues to be a major public health concern. Irrespective of where you practice, HIV is likely to have found its way into your patient base! This program updates participants on the spectrum of oral manifestations including oral malignancies associated with HIV disease, and reviews appropriate risk assessment algorithm for safe delivery of oral health care to those infected with HIV.

Dr. Mahnaz Fatahzadeh: Obtained her B.Sc. & DMD degrees as well as her GPR certificate from the Univ. of British Columbia; Canada and practiced general dentistry. She completed her Oral Medicine fellowship & MSD degree at Rutgers School-Dental Medicine. She is a professor of Oral Medicine & an attending at the Univ. Hospital. Dr. Fatahzadeh is a diplomat of American Board of Oral Medicine and serves as director of pre & post-doctoral oral medicine training at the Rutgers School-Dental Medicine
