The Center for Disease (CDC) control has been tracking multiple cases of monkeypox in the US. This virus, which is in the same viral family as smallpox, is very rare but recently has been in the news due to the increase in cases. The CDC urges healthcare providers to be on lookout for monkeypox symptoms, including oral lesions. It is important that all healthcare providers to be educated about this virus so they can properly identify signs and symptoms of monkeypox in patients (or others they may interact with). This program will discuss the monkeypox viral biology, transmission, diagnosis, preventive vaccination, treatment of monkeypox and the role of the healthcare provider in limiting the transmission.
