Live webinars are interactive and are considered live credits; they are not distance learning.

Requirements to attend using the live webinar option:

  1.  You will need a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer to view it. If using a smartphone or tablet, it is best to have the app for the program on your device (i.e. Zoom, GoToWebinar).
  2.  To verify your continued attendance during the class, you will need a microphone, webcam or the ability to type into the program’s live chat.
  3.   Instructors or school personnel will take attendance periodically throughout the class.
  4.   Instructors may call on participants.
  5.  To verify attendance, a code word may be given sometime during the class.
  6. You will be required to complete and return an evaluation after the course has ended. The evaluation may ask what code word was given.
  7.  You may not receive your Certificate of Completion if we cannot verify your attendance.

Live webinar invitations are emailed to registered students as the course date nears (approximately one day prior to the class).

Certificates of Completion are emailed to students approximately 5 business days after the course.

Objectives:

*Understanding of the most common medical emergencies in presentation and treatment options.
*Review of vital signs, medical health history, and documentation
*Understanding what drugs are in an emergency drug kit, their indications, contraindications, dose and route of administration

Course Description:

This course will teach you and your staff the fundamentals of handling medical emergencies. It will answer the following questions: *Is there a protocol for managing a medical emergency in your office? *What action would be taken? *Who is responsible for documentation? *What drugs or equipment should be readily available in the office? This course will prepare your office and staff for a variety of emergencies. This course is recommended for the entire dental team.

13:30-8.26 EMERGENCY PROTOCOL States the following, with an (with an addition added May 2021)

Each Dental Office, facility, dental clinic or institute at which there is patient contact .. At a minimum, shall:

  1. Have a written protocol for managing medical or dental emergencies, including:
  2. Have equipment to maintain adult and pediatric airways, including;
    1. A portable oxygen delivery system with full face masks;
    2. a BVM combination with appropriate connectors capable of delivering positive pressure and oxygen-enriched patient ventilation.
  3. Have an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
  4. Battery Operated Equipment consisting of;
    1. Lighting;
    2. Blood Pressure Monitoring Device; and
    3. Pulse Oximeter, all of which should be readily accessible and operating.
  5. Ensure that all staff are trained upon hire, and at least annually thereafter, and to implement the emergency protocol.
