Immunology and Genetics     The developing sciences that, now, and in the future, are providing new approaches for diagnosis and management of medical and dental disease –presented in an understandable manner so as not to confuse the listeners.

Requirements to attend a live webinar:

  1.  You will need a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer to view it. If using a smartphone or tablet, it is best to have the app for the program on your device (i.e. Zoom, GoToWebinar).
  2.  To verify your continued attendance during the class, you will need a microphone, webcam or the ability to type into the program’s live chat.
  3.   Instructors or school personnel will take attendance periodically throughout the class.
  4.   Instructors may call on participants.
  5.  To verify attendance, a code word may be given sometime during the class.
  6. You will be required to complete and return an evaluation after the course has ended. The evaluation may ask what code word was given.
  7.  You may not receive your Certificate of Completion if we cannot verify your attendance.

Course Description:

  • Update on the latest science of how blood clots:
    • Platelets – how do they work to help form a clot; nothing will happen without them
    • Cell-Based Coagulation – why you did not die when you cut your finger
  • Why might someone get a blood clot in the wrong place at the wrong time? No, a thrombus is not the same as a clot!
  • Guidelines for assessing and managing patients on the commonly used antiplatelet and anticoagulation medications and/or the new antiplatelet medications and the new anticoagulants
  • Bleeding risks in patients with liver or kidney disease
  • What are the blood studies and results that are necessary to avoid problems in patients who may be at risk?
  • Physician communication when necessary

Instructor:  Dr. Harold Cohen: is currently a Professor Emeritus at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in Newark, NJ.  He ran a private general dental practice in Old Bridge, NJ with an adjunctive focus on Orofacial Pain & Temporomandibular Disorders. In his past role at Rutgers Dental, he oversaw dental care of medically complex patients.  He now has significant interests centering on immunology and genetics, which will be significant dental and medical Dx and TX considerations in the future.
