Dental Patient Assessment and Management in a Time of Substance (Opioid) Use Disorders: MATE Required Topics

This Class Satisfies the MATE ACT Requirement: 

The MATE Act requires increased training for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-registered physicians and practitioners—specifically, a one-time eight-hour training requirement on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. Renewing DEA Registrants will need to satisfy with upcoming renewals.

These two 4-hour sessions meet the 8-hour education requirement for renewing registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Day 1, A Review of Pain Pathophysiology- Saturday March 9, 2024 Time: 9am to 1pm – A review of pain pathophysiology, basics of prescribing medications, how opioid affects the human body, and understanding drug addiction.

Day 2  Clinical Aspects of Prescribing for Dental Pain Management –Saturday March 16, 2024 Time: 9am to 1pm – Clinical aspects of prescribing for dental pain management: patient screening for substance use disorders and abuse, safe opioid prescribing, and the role of the dental staff in treating patients with substance use disorders.

Credits:     8 CEUs when you take both dates, you may only take one date for 4CEU’s

Instructor:  Dr. Harold Cohen: is currently a Professor Emeritus at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in Newark, NJ.  He ran a private general dental practice in Old Bridge, NJ with an adjunctive focus on Orofacial Pain & Temporomandibular Disorders. In his past role at Rutgers Dental, he oversaw dental care of medically complex patients.  He now has significant interests centering on immunology and genetics, which will be significant dental and medical Dx and TX considerations in the future.
