Opioid Training: Required Compliance Courses – Satisfies DEA MATE ACT and State Requirements


This program satisfies the 8-hour DEA MATE Act requirement for dentists.
Take 3 classes to obtain all 8 credits and receive a discounted tuition.

Three individual programs are offered. You may take these classes individually or take them all!

The MATE Act requires increased training for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-registered physicians and practitioners—specifically, a one-time eight-hour training requirement on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. Renewing DEA Registrants will need to satisfy with upcoming renewals.

These three sessions meet the 8-hour education requirement for renewing registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Clinical Aspects of Prescribing for Dental Pain Management – Clinical aspects of prescribing for dental pain management: patient screening for substance use disorders and abuse, safe opioid prescribing, and the role of the dental staff in treating patients with substance use disorders.  Alternative techniques to reduce pain. Pain management and reducing the need for pain meds: a. Pre-operative procedures,  b.Intra-operative procedures,  c. Post operative procedures.

Prescription Opioid Drugs: Treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of a substance use disorder. Safe pharmacological management of dental pain and screening, brief intervention, and referral for appropriate treatment of patients with or at risk of developing opioid and other substance use disorder.

Instructor: Dr. Marc Goldman

Dr. Marc Goldman completed his BS degree at The American University in Washington, DC in 1979 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The New York University College of Dentistry in 1979.  Dr. Goldman then completed his certificate in Periodontics at Rutgers University Dental School (formerly the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Dental School) in 1982.  Dr. Goldman is active in the American Dental Association, New Jersey Dental Association, Essex County Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology,  New Jersey Society of Peridontists, Newark Dental Club and the Garden State Society of Periodontics and Implantology. Dr. Goldman is the Chairman of the Department of Peridontics at Newark Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, NJ where he oversees the periodontal training of the General Practice Residents.  He has published articles in the Journal of the American Academy of Periodontics and Journal of the New Jersey Dental Association.  He lectures nationally
