“Clinical Pattern Recognition in Periodontal & Oral-Systemic Care”
Attend as a Live Interactive Webinar or Attend at our School
3 CEU’s
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Periodontal disease does not present the same way in every patient. Some patients show significant inflammation with minimal plaque, others experience localized breakdown that persists despite good home care, and some fail to respond as expected to periodontal therapy. This course helps dental professionals better understand and organize these clinical differences.
Participants will learn a practical framework for recognizing common clinical patterns seen in periodontal and preventive care. The course focuses on four key areas that influence periodontal presentation: inflammatory burden, structural and functional factors, biofilm characteristics, and tissue healing response. These patterns are explored through everyday clinical findings such as bleeding, pocket depth changes, bone loss, calculus formation, and treatment response.
Using case-based examples, attendees will practice applying this pattern-recognition approach to improve periodontal assessment, documentation, and patient communication. Emphasis is placed on observation, risk awareness, and collaboration within the dental team—not on diagnosis or treatment outside the dental scope of practice. This course is designed to support more consistent clinical decision-making and patient-centered periodontal care.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe common clinical patterns observed in periodontal conditions that may reflect inflammatory, structural, biofilm-related, or host-response influences.
- Explain how inflammatory burden, functional factors, and biofilm characteristics can affect periodontal presentation and healing.
- Identify clinical indicators associated with recurrent or non-responsive periodontal inflammation while remaining within the dental scope of practice.
- Apply a structured pattern-recognition framework to case examples to support periodontal assessment and clinical documentation.
- Demonstrate appropriate, scope-compliant language for communicating observed periodontal patterns with patients and collaborating providers.
