This program is a LIVE INTERACTIVE Webinar. Live webinars are considered live credits, not distance learning.

Requirements to attend a live webinar:

You will need a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer to view it. If using a smartphone or tablet, it is best to have the app for the program on your device (i.e. Zoom, GoToWebinar).
To verify your continued attendance during the class, you will need a microphone, webcam or the ability to type into the program’s live chat.
Instructors or school personnel will take attendance periodically throughout the class.
Instructors may call on participants.
To verify attendance, a code word may be given sometime during the class.
You will be required to complete and return an evaluation after the course has ended. The evaluation may ask what code word was given.
You may not receive your Certificate of Completion if we cannot verify your attendance.

  • Identify the different cardiovascular diseases and classes of medications used in their treatment.
  • Explore the clinical implications of these medications including adverse reactions and contraindications to dental therapy.
  • Discuss the newest anticoagulants available including their adverse reactions and patient care considerations.
  • Describe the treatment modifications and care planning strategies recommended for dental patients with cardiovascular disease

 

Cardiovascular disease and its systemic complications remain the leading cause of death for both men and women and has a significant impact on dental therapy.
This program explores the family of cardiovascular diseases (including hypertension, coronary artery disease, hyperlipidemia, and congestive heart failure) and the
medications used in their treatment. Participants will explore patient management strategies essential for successful treatment planning. Special emphasis will be given to newly
approved anticoagulant agents and their effect on dental

 

 

Instructor: Thomas Viola, R.Ph. C.C.P.
In addition to his daily practice of the profession of pharmacy, Thomas Viola also serves the dental professions as a clinical educator, published writer and professional speaker. Tom is a member of the faculty of eight colleges, as well as several national board exam review courses. He is a contributor to several dental professional journals, with pharmacology columns appearing regularly in General Dentistry, AGD Impact, Access Magazine and RDH Magazine. In addition, Tom currently serves on the Advisory Board for General Dentistry and as the Subject Matter Expert for Mosby’s Dental Drug Reference. Tom has presented hundreds of continuing education courses, nationally and internationally, in the areas of dental pharmacology and local anesthesia.
